Speedpainting I by Nachiii Speedpainting I by Nachiii
So, this is my first try in speedpainting. Well, i didn't concentrate much on the time and I didn't draw it continuously, so I don't know how much time it took. Next time, I shall concentrate more on cleaner lines etc. It's pretty bad, I know. I guess it's more of a sketch than a speedpainting...
I'd be happy for any opinions or tips how to do speedpaintings :D
Oh, yay, I was finally able to draw (at least roughly) my character Azrael again (after 9 months!) :aww:

Now I see I forgot some feathers (red one on the tail). If you're by any chance going to draw Azrael, please be so kind to use a different reference. This one isn't very accurate ^^;

ah critiques~ lovely:

first off, if i could draw something like this then i would stare at it for 3 hours not getting i made it, IMO its plenty clean, the slight haze at the colors give it a deam-alike aura~

the angle of light is good, maybe my advice is a little more varity in the shapes of the mountains, but your call.

on the flora of this picture, seeing how the clouds are swirling around the mountains in the lower part of the pic i would say its kinda off to see a forrest alike flora up in the highlands, but you only notice that when you pay really good attention to plant species~ no harm done there.

i would say as my advice: try to eperiment with the light comming from different angles C:

okay sander94 out.
What do you think?

I'm sorry, I didn't. To be honest I don't know how to do it except use livestream. But I couldn't do that, because lately my computer is slow enough as it is :( I might try to stream some other day if it get better, though :)

Well, it took much longer. I usually take long for everything. And I'm not familiar with this style, so I was trying things out and didn't concentrate on being too speedy :aww: I'll try to get better in this and make the pictures more neat.

speed paint generally are under 1 or 2 hours in my opinion.

I think I could have taken about 3-4 hours, but I'm very unsure about this. But it's because I spend quite a lot of time with the ground, that I re-did a couple of times.
I don't know if there are any rules as to the time limit. I suppose it always depends on complexity of the picture (I don't mean that this one is very complex, but it's my first speedpaint, so I'm not very fast, yet). The way I see it is that speedpaint is speedy if it takes much much less time then your usual pictures of the same complexity and it's done with fast methods (long brush strokes etc.), using different brushes and textures (when it's digital). I might be wrong, of course, but it's the was I see it :)

Ok, but woulf you give me a link to some pictures or character sheet of your characters, so I can see which ones you mean. I took a peak in your gallery, but I don't know which one you'd like and I didn't see if you have some pic of them in color? If they're colorless, I would probably add some color that's not characteristic for your char.

Would you call Azrael a dragon or no?

I do call her a dragon. A know it's not your usual scaly one, but I have no better name for her and in general I call all these furry feathered-winged creatures dragons, too. Let's say it's a special type, like a parrot-dragon or something :aww:

I would call her a dragon more than I'd call most of the scaly things people draw dragons. It's a lot more about the way they hold themselves than what their skin is like, if you ask me. Very nice concept.

That's a nice way to perceive it :aww: I feel honored now :aww::D I guess it's true about the skin, but if you say :dragon: people usually imagine a scaly reptile-like creature, I guess.

I think of dragons as being somewhere in between a cat, a bird and a snake. However, a lot of the time I notice that the serpentine and feline aspects often cancel each other out to some extent, and so you kind of get two different ways to draw every dragon. Two different ways for it to hold itself, that is.

That's a nice way to put it :D I like to put some feline aspects in my dragon's too (body and legs). It's the one thing I love about dragons most - that everyone sees them differently so I can use my fantasy and simply draw a creature that I like :)
